Winter is Here

Lots to catch up on.
About two months ago, I went to the very first professional football game of my life. Now, I know there are a lot of people who’ve never been to an NFL game before, but I also haven’t been to a division I football game, and it seems like damn near everyone I know has been to either a UCLA or USC game before. I refuse (Go Tigers!). So, I gotta thank Poca for scoring tickets to the Chargers game when the Packers came into town. It was a sold out ticket, with nosebleeds going for $300+ per ticket, but we had no idea how much the face value of our tickets were because the seats were in the “friends and family” section.
For a first football game, except for the rain, I couldn’t really have asked for much more. The game was high-scoring – fifty something to forty something – with the outcome in doubt until the very last minute. I guess another thing we could have done without were the obnoxious Green Bay Packers fans which seemed to occupy over half the stadium. Then again, you can’t really blame them when Chargers fans are so docile and unsupportive of their own team.
While the game itself was great, getting in and getting out was a total nightmare. The guys tailgating in the concrete parking structure after the game had the right idea – clearly veteran football game goers. But despite the whole experience taking up my entire day, I’m looking forward to going to my next NFL football game — in Los Angeles.

I really didn’t do much for Halloween weekend, that’s why there’s no blog entry. But I did have a quiet night of bowling up in Glendale with my friends Tiffany and Mary. At that time, Mary got the urge to have a bigger bowling night the following weekend, and well, here we are.
Pointless. I know.
Go X or go home.

As you get older, you stop going out as often. It used to be a weekly thing – you and your friends just understood that everyone would be going out on at least one of the nights, most likely two, and on occasion, three. Now it takes a herculean effort to get people to go out anywhere, it seems. Nights out aren’t “random” anymore, but planned “occasions”. So, I was just glad to have had a random night out recently.

This second half of the year, several of the friends I made while over at Georgetown moved or moved back to L.A., and one of them got the bright idea to go to the Grove’s tree lighting. Honestly, I thought tree lightings, even at the Grove, were something that only tourists went to to listen to has-been performers sing and watch never-was F-listers flip a big light switch. So, I was absolutely surprised by the number of animals people who showed up to this thing, including a few random friends of mine. And I was absolutely wrong about the entertainment because the performers were at least B-listers. I mean, Mario Lopez was hosting. (I suppose some would consider Robin Thicke an A lister, but he annoyed me so I have him firmly at B. ) (Edit: I’d previously stated that it was John Mayer as opposed to Robin Thicke, but that just proves my point: not A-listers because you do not mix up or forget A-listers.)
If you know the layout of the Grove, it was packed like this almost all the way up to the Farmer’s Market side.
The place was fantastically decorated, and they even had falling “snow.”
I’m not gonna say that it was fun because I sure as hell am not going back, but it was good to experience at least once in my life.

During Thanksgiving weekend, I stayed put in Orange County, but I did manage to get out one night. Here’s proof.
At the Copper Door in Santa Ana
You might want to “save as” this picture because there may never be another picture of me partying in Orange County. It’ll be like having a real photograph of the last dinosaur on earth.

I also went to another tree lighting event to keep Tiffany company. Unfortunately, a tree lighting at the Citadel outlet mall in Commerce is not quite like one at the Grove in West Hollywood. She had to go there for work to cover and interview the lead performer, Victoria Justice. So, at the very least, I got to stand in the front row and bop my head to catchy pop songs I didn’t recognize, written for children and teenagers who watch the Disney Channel and Nickleodean. I did get to talk to Victoria and also her mom, so there’s that. So, at the Citedel, you’re not getting A.C. Slater and Robin Thicke, but you are getting a pretty big star in the tween and teen world. You’re also getting the same crazy crowd packing the mall and causing chaos for the people who just chose the wrong day to go Christmas shopping. So, to reiterate: I’m sure as hell not going back.

You know what I’m wishing for this Christmas? A new job and living quarters up in L.A. That way things like this won’t happen the day after a night out.
Don’t cop my swagger.

Nice look. Next time I’d replace the black socks with white tube socks. Just saying.
